Orange men also lost on hot Belgian soil in Pro League
June 23, 2026 · 1 min read · StickAtlas Desk
The Orange men left the field without points in the Pro League for the second time in three days. A unique event in the era of national coach Jeroen Delmée. After last Sunday's 3-2 loss against India, a 2-0 defeat against Australia followed on Tuesday evening in the warm Wavre. After Sunday, the Netherlands no longer had a chance of winning the final in the country competition.
It was the kick-off of a spicy tail end of the Pro League, which traditionally ends at a rapid pace. Over the past two weekends, the Dutch team played four international matches in Rotterdam, which yielded varying results. They won and lost against both Germany (2-2, 5-3) and India (3-2, 2-3). It meant that winning in the Pro League was no longer possible, which meant that an Olympic ticket could be canceled.
That happened from the first Australian corner of the match, which went in after a lot of rebounds. One of the Aussies with Dutch roots, Tim Brand, born in Gouda, struck from close range. A goal that national coach Jeroen Delmée had his doubts about, as he reported at half-time in front of the FIH cameras. He thought that goalkeeper Derk Meijer was pushed in front of the goal.
