Spain achieved a comfortable victory against Pakistan in Belgium (1-5), in the match played at the Belfius Hockey Arena, in a match corresponding to the FIH Pro League. Max Caldas' team controlled the entire game, they knew how to defend the rival team's fast players and were successful in front of goal, with Pepe Cunill scoring a double and Nico Álvarez another.
Spain began attacking from the beginning and in the third minute Marc Recasens already had the first opportunity to score, but his shot went too cross. Marc Reyné had it in the 7th minute, but the goalkeeper touched it with his glove, just enough so that it didn't go in. Chefo Basterra was closer, hitting the goal with a strong pass from the left of our attack, but goalkeeper Raza Ali was once again extremely successful and deflected wide. But in the next play, with a corner taken very quickly by Xavi Gispert, Spain surprised the Pakistani defense and Nico Álvarez opened the scoring (0-1).
Pakistan had a Penalty Corner in the 20th minute, but Luis Calzado took out his left glove to prevent the tying goal. After two minutes the PC went to the RedSticks, but Pepe Cunill threw it out. However, after another corner, the ball reached Cunill himself who took advantage of the play to cross his shot and score 0-2. With 30 seconds left in the half, a good individual play by Bruno Font assisted Chefo, who shot wide. And, with 15 seconds left, PC in favor that Pepe Cunill converted into his second goal and third of the match (0-3) with a shot tight to the right post of the rival goal.
