The German hockey women celebrated a narrow but deserved 2-1 win against England in the FIH Pro League in London. After a slow start, the German team earned the first three points of the season through an increase in chances and a solid defensive performance.
In the first few minutes the English had slightly more possession of the ball, but Germany appeared to be well organized and continued to push forward. Especially at the end of the first quarter, DANAS were really in control and created scoring opportunities. Lena Micheel had the best shot in the 13th minute, but her shot only hit the outside post.
At the beginning of the second quarter, the English tried to get the momentum back and started the German build-up game early. On the other hand, the German team was more dangerous. If Jette Fleschütz failed in the 24th minute against the English goalkeeper Sabbie Heesh, the German effort was finally rewarded in the 26th minute: Fleschütz gave the Danas a 1-0 lead after Yani Zhong made a decisive follow-up on the edge of the shooting circle and Fleschütz was able to overcome Heesh with a nice lob.
