Van Bijnen: from extra training to a world goal in the final

There was absolutely no shortage of highlights in the - especially before half-time - wonderful first final meeting between Amsterdam and Rotterdam. But there was a moment when the Wagener Stadium went wild after the 2-3 by Amsterdam striker Brent van Bijnen. A gem of a goal and the ultimate reward for his extra training work.

Of course he had not yet seen his dream goal shortly after the 2-3 defeat. But Van Bijnen knew very well that he had done something special. The match went in all directions in the first half. Often in favor of Rotterdam, which twice achieved a two-goal margin. But Amsterdam kept reducing the lead, as in the 23rd minute of the final.

And how. The ball hit the roof of the goal like a grenade. The Amsterdam crowd almost clapped their hands for one of the most beautiful goals they had seen this season. Van Bijnen still can't quite comprehend it a few minutes after the match. 'Phew...great that I can make it like this. This only works if you don't think too much,' laughs the Brabander, who came over from SCHC in 2019.
