Romee Joosten is not the player who puts her stick in the air every week at Den Bosch. Not the name you automatically enter when you need to score in a final. In three seasons with the Den Bosch main squad, the 24-year-old defender had only scored two competition goals. But on Saturday afternoon, in the first final match for the national title against Amsterdam (2-2), she was in the right place.
We write the 55th minute of the fascinating first final match between both superpowers. Amsterdam has just taken a 2-1 lead through Fay van der Elst when Den Bosch is allowed to take the ninth penalty corner of the match. Matla's viscous drag push smothers at the penalty spot and returns to stopper Romee Joosten via Imke Verstraeten's stick. He didn't hesitate for a moment and eagerly scored the 2-2 at a time when Den Bosch desperately needed that goal.
'Actually, I knew he was really inside the circle. But when a video is requested, you still think: maybe I didn't see something?'
